Dry cleaning vs laundry: choose the service for the garment

Ask about the cleaning method and finishing, then confirm what is included in the order.

Start with the care label

Bring the garment with its care instructions and describe the result you need. Dry cleaning uses a specialised cleaning process, while laundry uses water and detergent. The choice depends on the garment’s materials, construction and care instructions, so ask the cleaner to assess the actual item.

Separate washing from finishing

A laundry order may be wash and fold, or it may include pressing and presentation on hangers. Dry-cleaning orders can include finishing too. Ask what the quoted service includes rather than assuming every cleaned item will be ironed or returned in the same way.

Discuss special items individually

Point out delicate trim, stains, alterations and any earlier damage. Ask whether the location handles the item itself or sends it to a specialist. Confirm any extra work and its price before leaving a garment that needs more than the standard service.

Check the order at both ends

Review the item count, chosen service and collection date on the receipt. At pickup, compare the returned items with that record and raise a concern with staff while you can show the garment. Keep any care instructions the cleaner provides for the next visit.
